MAGNESIUM

The magnesium is the chemical element of symbol Mg and atomic number 12.

The name comes from Magnesia, which in Greek was designating Tesalia's region (Greece). The Englishman Joseph Black recognized the magnesium as a chemical element in 1755. In 1808 Humphry Davy it obtained pure metal by means of electrolysis of a mixture of magnesia and HgO.

The magnesium is the most abundant eighth element in the bark of the Earth, though he is not in his elementary form. It is a question as an element of the group 2, which are called alkaline metals. It is an important element for the vegetable and animal life.
