The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier Object 31 Messier 31 or NGC 224, is a giant spiral galaxy. Is the object visible to the naked eye farthest from Earth. It is 2.5 million light years away in the constellation Andromeda. It is the largest and brightest of the galaxies in the Local Group, which consists of about 30 small galaxies plus three large spiral galaxies: Andromeda, the Milky Way and the Triangulum Galaxy. It has an estimated mass of between 300,000 and 400,000 million solar masses: about one and half times the mass of the Milky Way, and is twice as bright as this.

One day the gods visited an old man named Hyrieus could not have children but wanted to have one. In gratitude for the hospitality granted his wish, urinate into the skin of the ox that had been eaten. When finished he was told to bury the skin and within nine months would have his child. After the period mentioned was born a child who was named in memory of Orion that he had fathered urine .

He promised to kill any animal that had on earth, so that Gaia was angry and gave birth to a huge scorpion stung Orion and killed him. In another version which was launched Artemis scorpion against Orion.
There is another tradition that held that Artemis was in love with Orion, which aroused jealousy in Apollo, twin brother of Artemis. Artemis released his arrow and gave, as usual, on target. When he went to see his prey, he realized that he had destroyed his beloved Orion. So great was his sorrow, their complaints and complaints that we decided to put Orion in the sky for solace.
Another legend has it that Orion harassed the Pleiades, daughters of the Titan Atlas, so that Zeus placed them in heaven. It still seems that in the sky, Orion continues to pursue the Pleiades.
Orion is represented by a warrior, raising his bow, his sword or stick and covering the enemy with a fleece or a shield.
On his side are his hunting dogs: Canis Major and Canis Minor.

The latter takes the place that corresponds to the mast of the ship.
