SODIUM

The sodium is a chemical element of symbol Na (of the Latin, sodanum, soda; and the symbol Na, of the Latin natrium, nitrate of sodium) atomic number 11, it was discovered by Sir Humphry Davy, in 1807. It is an alkaline soft, sticky metal, of silver, very abundant color in the nature, being in the marine salt and the mineral halita. It is very a reagent, burns with yellow flame, oxidizes in presence of oxygen and reacts violently with the water. The sodium is present in big quantities in the ocean in ionic form. Also it is a component of many minerals and an essential element for the life.
The metallic sodium uses in organic synthesis as agent reducer.
The sodium is relatively abundant in the stars.
