The Swedish chemist Scheele was the first one that discovered that the manganese was an element, but he was Johan Gottlieb Gahn in 1774 who isolated it for reduction of the dioxide with carbon. Also one has found dioxide of manganese in cave paintings. The manganese is a white metal of transition greyish, similar to the iron. It is a hard and very fragile metal and easily oxidable.
