Perseus is a northern constellation representing Perseus, the mythological hero who beheaded Medusa. It is one of the 48 constellations of Ptolemy and one of the 88 modern constellations. It is the famous variable Algol (β Persei), and it is localized meteor shower of the Perseids.
The constellation Perseus is a warrior armed with the helmet of Hades, Athena's shield and sword and talares of Hermes, who carries in his hand the head of Medusa, whose eye corresponds to the star Algol. In the celestial scheme, Perseus is included in the set that encompasses Cepheus, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Pegasus and Cetus.
